THE CHALLENGE

Figma has education features and tools like FigJam, but these are not yet entrenched in everyday design classrooms and students' workflows
Figma has education features and tools like FigJam, but these are not yet entrenched in everyday design classrooms and students' workflows
Students and professors are not solely leaning on Figma's education platform for their design needs, putting Figma at a competitive risk with emerging platforms.

WHY FIGMA SHOULD CARE
WHY FIGMA SHOULD CARE
With the changing landscape of tools, students are no longer married to a single software and are rapidly adapting new ones in their workflows
With the changing landscape of tools, students are no longer married to a single software and are rapidly adapting new ones in their workflows
Students have started using design and developer tools outside of Figma (like Cursor) to make their lives easier. It was not long ago when Sketch, a key platform in the industry, was overtaken by Figma. Figma needs to serve students, who will soon enter industry; and educators, who have a major influence in what tools these future designers will be using.

Generating a 'Design Drill'
Generating a 'Design Drill'
Choose which design principles you want to work on and pick your drill to start practicing.

Have a personalized experience by getting on call with what feels like a team member and review and dissect work in this more natural way by pausing, pointing, and asking questions.

Building out a plugin as an MVP
Building out a plugin as an MVP
We shipped a Plugin which generates 'incorrect' frames for students to fix and gain practice; to validate our concept and better understand user needs.

'Interactive Slides' to promote precise, thorough feedback

Students follow along with the presenter by engaging with the slides on their phones, leaving personal notes/feedback, and bookmarking slides they liked or want to comment on later during crit.

Professors can make edits on your frame when they are in 'crit mode' and students can review these later, compare changes from the original design and accept modifications as they feel fit.

Grading Figma assignments, leaving comments and uploading grades to the university system is a very manual process right now. Grade Feed allows professors to review students' Figma frames/decks all in one place and centralizes the feedback process.

We had to take into consideration the constrains and implications of AI within the classroom before designing out the end-to-end Design Drills flow; and understand each parties' stance on AI - Figma, students, and professors alike.
